Paramaribo, Suriname – November 2017
The 2nd Suriname International Mining, Energy & Petroleum Conference & Exhibition was held from the 1-2 November 2017 at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKF), Conference and exhibition Centre. The event was organised by AME Trade Ltd. to facilitate the development of Suriname’s extractive industries emphasising on investments in infrastructure.
With a total of +230 registered participants attended the event, the event was deemed to be successful with emissaries such as His Excellency, Rodolphe Alexandre, 5th President of the Regional Council of French Guiana attending the event. Based on the theme of the 2017 edition, the presentations during the event highlighted the importance of optimising resource industry linkages in developing the supporting industry of the sector and creating infrastructure which can be shared with other sectors of the economy, ensuring the creation of a resource industry that is more robust and that contributes to sustainable economic development of the country.
The programme for SURIMEP 2017 was created to provide focus on reforms in tax policies, delving into alternative funding mechanism such as Public Private Partnerships, Build Operate Transfer and creation of Sovereign Wealth fund, future opportunities in Suriname’s mining and oil & gas sectors keeping the country’s geology in mind, and a strong focus on artisanal mining and engagement of local communities keeping in sight the wider goal of transparency and sustainable economic development.
SURIMEP 2017 featuring sponsorships from big names such as Republic Bank, JSL International, The NGC Group of Companies, Courtyard Marriott and TK Penn Consulting and having exhibitors from the mining, energy and oil & Gas sectors, have provided ample opportunities for networking and business development. The event has acted as an ideal podium for public and private stakeholders to congregate to meet new prospective business partners and do business in Suriname.
